In 1622, during a hurricane, a Spanish Galleon sank to the bottom of the ocean.  Fast forward to 1985, and the Neustra Senora de Atocha was found about 35 miles off the coast of Key West, Florida.

Mel Fisher’s search began in 1969 and has resulted in about $500 million in booty. His grandson, Sean, expects to uncover another $500 million!   The latest is an emerald and gold ring estimated to be worth more than $500,000. The emerald likely came from the Muzo mines in Colombia.

Colombian emeralds are famous for their beautiful green color. Many times, just the fact that it’s a Colombian emerald pushes the price upward. But it’s the color which is the most important – no matter what mine gives it up – be it Zambia, Afghanistan, or North Carolina! …Dii

Get Toasted!

A 60-year anniversary is known as the Diamond Jubilee. Along with diamonds, you might be toasting the occasion with champagne!  If you’re the reigning Queen of England, you have “subjects” creating a special whiskey decanter to commemorate 60 years on the throne. Crowned with a silver collar and set with a diamond, who would dare pour?

Queen Victoria celebrated her Diamond Jubilee – 60 years reigning – in 1897. Since then, traditional wedding anniversaries promote the diamond for 60 years and 75! Long live love!!

The official Jubilee date for QE is February 12, 2012 – in case you want to get toasted…   Dii

Sometimes gold and diamonds don’t make up your typical jewelry items. This glove looks more bionic than beautiful. Is it armor or lace? Is it even comfortable to wear??

Shaun Leane and Daphne Guinness collaborated on this creation of more than 5,000 pavé set diamonds. Shaun, one of the UK’s most sought-after jewelry designers, hits the big OH! with this one. For more on Shaun, visit his website, www.shaunleane.com/
