n 1622, during a hurricane, a Spanish Galleon sank to the bottom of the ocean. Fast forward to 1985, and the Neustra Senora de Atocha was found about 35 miles off the coast of Key West, Florida.
Mel Fisher’s search began in 1969 and has resulted in about $500 million in booty. His grandson, Sean, expects to uncover another $500 million! The latest is an emerald and gold ring estimated to be worth more than $500,000. The emerald likely came from the Muzo mines in Colombia.
Colombian emeralds are famous for their beautiful green color. Many times, just the fact that it’s a Colombian emerald pushes the price upward. But it’s the color which is the most important – no matter what mine gives it up – be it Zambia, Afghanistan, or North Carolina! …Dii
